Unplug Research: Opinions and Attitudes

The study conducted by previous cycles of project Unplug includes research into opinions and attitudes of Barangay Mintal's citizens concerning energy saving and conservation. In general, people think energy  saving is important but there are some who do not see the importance as they just use what they need and are able to use in everyday life and do not experience a need for energy saving. To be able to understand people's opinions on energy conservation is the basis for planning effective communication and other action to tackle the issue. Higher awreness among people also means less consuming which can be seen from the research results.

Common opinion is that electricity is expensive, although in reality Mindanao has lower prices than the rest of the Philippines. When asked about for whom is energy conservation important, responses show that people think energy conservation is more or less equally important for each me and my family, Davao and Mindanao, Philippines, and the world.

Most people are aware of the energy crisis in Mindanao. But approximately one fifth still lack information and do not know where to find it concerning the energy crisis. This is the situation also with energy saving, as most people do know about it but approximately fifteen percent haven't got knowledge and do not know where to find it either. People find information about saving energy in media, friends and relatives, and school and workplace. Social events, internet, and banners and such are not that important information sources.
